Kindergarten Class Page-3 January & February

The months of January and February were very busy and full months.     We started the month of January by learning all about Jesus'   Baptism.   How He was baptized by his cousin John the Baptist and He   was baptized in the Jordan River.   We then learned how today we are   Baptized in the Church with just a little water over our heads.   The   children did some role playing and lots of projects to get ready for a special baptism of our baby dolls and stuffed animals.

The children continue to add more letters and sounds and words.    They are really reading up a storm.  we have begun a program called DEAR time.  This is Drop Everything And Read and we do.  We try to do this at least 2 or 3 times during the week.  We are adding more Letter Lights (vowels) to our list of Letter People so we are able to make and read more words.  What fun!

In math we are learning to add and subtract as well as estimate our answers.  We play all kinds of math games to reinforce all the things we are learning.  We work on calculators and count and play bank with real money.  We are learning to tell time by the hour and learning how long that is.  The children made a class graph of their pets and we discovered more children had dogs as a pet than anything else.  We reached our 100th day of school in February and we had a big   celebration.  We made a snack using 100 items.  Then we ate it.     Counting  is something we do everyday.  We count by 2's, 5's and   10's.  we count forward and backward.    Our shoes made great patterns.

Mrs. Pelletier came and taught us about Hermie the Germie.  How keeping our hand washed and sneezing into our sleeves will help to   keep us from getting sick.  Then we had a special visit from Mrs.    Wishy Washy who also taught us about keeping ourselves clean as well   as washing foods and things in our house  to keep the germies away.    Dental Health month also taught us about having healthy teeth and eating healthy foods.  We had a healthy snack valentine's party.

During the month of January we learned to make beautiful snowflakes.    In February we made valentines.    We studied about Martin Luther   King Jr., George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Catholic Schools Week was fun and very busy.  we started the week with a bowling adventure with our 8th grade buddies.  What fun that   was!!!   On Tuesday we had our special baptism in Church with Father   Walter.  Our 8th grade buddies were the god-parents to our babies and stuffed animals.  Our buddies helped us find our houses on the computer with the help of Mr. Taylor.  They then took us to lunch with them.  On Thursday we attended the Honors Assembly and had a great time listening to the band.  Friday we took the mittens, hats, and scarves we collected to the Mid Coast Hunger Center.  We finished off the week with an awesome slide show of all the children and things we have done in the school.

March will bring Lent, St. Patrick's day and parent - teacher conferences.
